[Adventure] He Chained Their Minds (DM: CrimsonFlameWielder; Judge Needed )

Recovering from his stumble Kane and peeking over his shoulder to see the unseelie closing in upon him, Kane sends a bolt of arcane energy into the forerunners of the swarm which, if it lands where he intends, will explode into a burst of cold wind, sliding their pursuers into each others path causing them to stumble over each other and slow their pursuit.

OOC: Kane's 'other' action would be to use a Freezing Burst on their pursuers, sliding them into each other's path as the winds buffet the winged creatures about. Don't know if that is feasible.

OOC: @jbear: That's the spirit! AOE's are king in this kind of chase where they're packed in tight and ready to swarm you to death... I figure you're going to aim that right where it hurts the most and since they're packed solid, that's a full 9 attacks! Go ahead and attack the swarm of creatures, they have a reflex of 17. If you can hit at least 4 of them, you'll get a reward!

Kane sends a ball of cold air hurtling toward the fae creatures behind him. Landing amidst the throng of enemies, it devastates their front line, sending tiny sprite bodies into trees, into each other, and some even fall prey to hitting the ground, their tiny frozen bodies shattering into tiny bits, which sounds like the breaking of fine crystal glasses. You don't have much time to contemplate this, as the thousands of other flying fae menaces sort through the chaos, regroup and begin to advance upon you once more. However, for now, you've given yourself and your team a temporary moment of breathing room.

OOC: Kane's AOE attack grants everyone's next Athletics check with a +2 bonus as the enemy takes time to regroup, and it makes keeping ahead just a little bit easier.

Retconning previous rolls because of this, Kama'zer is still at a buffer of 4, but Vander is no-longer reduced to Buffer 2, as Kane's +2 bonus bumps his roll of 15 to a roll of 17!

Buffers:
4: Kama'zer
3: Joy, Ignatz, Sound of Stone, Vander
2: Kane,

[sblock=Unseilee Death Race: Round 1]

Kane: Rolls 14 on Athletics check, falling from Buffer 3 to Buffer 2. However, he hits 4 of 9 front-line enemies with area burst 1 attack, granting everyone's next Athletics check with a +2 bonus.

Kama'zer: Rolls 1d20+11+2 (from Kane's bonus) -2 (speed penalty from armor), for a total roll of 28. Kamazer moves from Buffer 3 to Buffer 4. Action not yet given.

Vander: Rolls 1d20+3+2 (from Kane's bonus), for a total of 17, a success. He stays at Buffer 3. Action not yet given.

Vander watches as Kane launches an attack at the following unseelie far, but begins to fall behind the rest of the party as a result. Vander launches his own attack, not at the creatures themselves, but at the ground between them and Kane, aiming for an area of dry brush.
OOC: Burning Brand to try to start the brush on fire to slow them down. 1d20+10=11 Crit fail :(

Vander, attempting to start a fire by repeatedly slamming his tiny, fire-imbued, fists into what looks like dry brush, is quickly surprised when he sees the supple sway of what was really the green wood of a new plant, wet with life. The brown coating on the outside of the plant, which looked like dead dry bark, was really a multitude of tiny harmless insects that are attracted to the sweet sap of the new plant. When Vander hit the bush, the diminutive insects scattered in a small flying cloud. Seeing the green wood appear beneath the cloud of bugs, and cursing his bad luck at not identifying the bush's camouflage in time, the tiny monk takes flight once again, keeping up with the rest of his group.

OOC: Buffers:
4: Kama'zer
3: Joy, Ignatz, Sound of Stone, Vander
2: Kane

OOC: @Phoenix8008 : Unfortunately, that wouldn't quite work. Opening Shove is a Melee range attack. With the fluid nature of how large a Buffer point is, you would need to be at a buffer of 1 to be close enough to make that attack. If you want to lower Kama'zer's buffer to 1, you can use that attack and give Kane a +6 bonus to his NEXT athletics roll (not the past one, since Kama'zer went after Kane).

Joy had little experience in running for her life- fighting on the deck of a ship, in particular, meant there just wasn't far to run. Still, she was in fine condition and despite the weight of her armor, she was able to keep pace with her companions- for now, anyway...

[sblock= OOC] Athletics 1d20+9 -2 (speed 5)= 18 (rolled 20)= success; roll http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3849032/ [/sblock]

OOC: [MENTION=48394]pathfinderq1[/MENTION]:Will Joy be using her action (standard, move, or minor) to use a skill or power in an attempt to affect yourself or the chase?
