My DM has, when seeing if we found anything interesting after a very long time in what was meant to be a "side" adventure (heheh), rolled what he called "insanely high" for my character. Now, given the slightly off-beat nature of our game, it could come into my character's possession through any number of means ;). But, he's still kinda clueless as to what it might be. Myself, I'm thinking a neat familiar. But I think he wants something else.

Some background information. We're a six character 15th level party. Human paladin, human sorcerer/loremaster(/necromancer), gnome illusionist, elven arcane trickster, halfling cleric of luck/rogue, and my character, a human wizard/Sculptor of Chaos (thanks Mr. Nock!). We all have our "schtick", and being a wild mage and a cook, my character gravitates towards food and specifically, fruit, attacks. Don't laugh. Ever seen lime jello in place of an acid fireball? Or frozen strawberries in place of a cone of cold? ;)

Regardless, we've just come out of an area of dead magic where many magic items had been stored, so we could conceivable have found something. We weren't looking for loot, as there was good-guy stuff to be done and we didn't really get a chance to grab any loot, so no worry about montyhaulism there. Still, it provides a mechanism to introduce items if we did indeed find something.

What is this particular wizard like? He is a wild mage because he tries to wield the fundamental forces of the universe in their natural form, instead of channelled through formulae. He is a scientist with a bit of a goofy mad scientist/swedish chef streak. So, humor has its place. He comes from a land where most are enslaved by cruel dragon kings, humans who are half dragon and immensely powerful wizard psions. He helped many slaves escape, and found his way to Toril (Forgotten Realms). He hopes to find a means to return to his world (possible), and free the land from oppression. The only means he can think of is to raise an army and defeat the dragon kings, but he is somewhat foolish in that regard and clings to it as his only hope. He worships the element of air, as their are no gods in his homeworld -- his favored elemental attack is electricity, and hopes to acquire a familiar that is in metagame terms, a lightning-based lantern archon. Oh, and did I mention he's got a cooking score of over +20? ;)

Anyway! So what's the point of this post? Help me find a suggestion to give to my DM as to what sort of item might fit this guy. Even if it's a minor artifact, that's fine. My DM's great at balancing those with funny quirks and heavy tolls for their use. (That's a maximum power level, by the way . . .) Other members of the party have their "schtick", either unique powers they possess or powerful items. My character? He's a wizard's wizard, and has never needed any item or unique power. Now, the DM wants to give him something.

What? I don't know. I'm a rules defence lawyer: I'm afraid of powergaming so I hold myself back. Thus, I don't want to come up with the idea and spend weeks pining over it when he wants any help I can give him...uh...ASAP ;). Anything you guys can suggest, please do! You can email me at arsglacialis@yahoo.com if you wish. Thank you all in advance!

Staffs are of course an obvious option for a high-level wizard, very true to tradition. Headband of INT or Ring of Wizardry are also obvious choices.

Other stuff that might be cool, in general or specifically for you:
Any sort of teleportation device; including plane shift-effects
A dragon-bane weapon that allows you to cast True Strike at will
A magical cabinet/larder; whenever you open it you find the ingredients you want
Meta-magic rods
A magic pot/casserole/fryingpan that gives a bonus to cooking
A wand/staff with one or more of the "anti-dragon" spells from draconomicon
Rod of Excellent Magic (from ELH, but you said he rolled insanely high so maybe it's not that inappropriate)

One that you'll have absolutely no use for yet, but could be very handy some levels from now; if the campaign goes on for long enough and you get a chance to go dragon hunting in your homewordl: Rod of Epic Spellcasting!

Let's hear what you end up with, eh? Sounds like a cool character!

a mundane spork... which is revered and worshiped by wandering armies for millenia and becomes a god, and places you as its avatar... hey, we can hope!

(run around proclaiming "Behave, or I will smite you with the SPORK GOD!" Not to be confused with the power of the spork god, no, you use the actual god!)

although in all seriousness I would throw you an Oriental Adventures Rice Mortar and Pecil with 2 Wishes left... but I've been known to give out deity ranks in one off sessions...

Just a wild guess here, but is your "homeworld" Athas ( aka. Darksun )? Elementals instead of Gods.. Dragon-King Wizard Psions.. Sounds like Darksun to me. :)

Anyway, I second the items above, and also think a more potent Rod of Wonder would be a nifty item to throw at your character. If your sticking to second editions Wild Mage ability to 'almost' control chaotic items, you could really get a lot of use out of it. What do I mean by a more potent rod of wonder?

First, give it an intelligence. Maybe a powerful wild mage whos own spells turned against him and imprisoned him within the wand, never to be free. Lets make it a staff.. and give it some way to be recharged. Maybe by leaving it in the burning sun for a week at a time restores a lost charge. Add some newer random effects, higher level spells, and some randomness from the 2nd edition Wild Surge Table in Tome of Magic.

To finish it off, give it a "Spell surge" ability whenever you cast a spell ( or spend a charge while casting a spell ). Roll a d10. Then modify your caster level of the spell based on the difference between your result and 5 ( Examples: 1: -4 caster level, 9: +4 caster levels ).

Decanter of Endless Liquids:

Similar to a Decanter of Endless Water, except this one can "taste" any non-corrosive liquid, and then reproduce it, upon command. Thus, water, vinegar, grog, mead, wine, sasparilla, lemonade, beef broth, ptomaine soup, chicken stew, yogurt, yak's milk, dragon spittle, dog retch, or any other liquid can be reproduced in endless quantity (as long as a sample has been input beforehand).

Just think of all the fun a whacky chef could have with that!...

"Oh!... You said bull SPIT! I thot you said...!"

I'm thinking some sort of frying pan of doom heros feast? With various Darksun people summoned with it, or what ever place youir characer came from.
