Atlantis: The Second Age Sampler Now Available

First Post
A small sampler document is now available for those interested in the upcoming Atlantis: The Second Age RPG from Morrigan Press Inc. Atlantis: The Second Age is a complete revision of the classic Atlantean Trilogy of RPG books by Bard Games, originally published in the mid-1980's (Arcanum, Lexicon & Beastiary).

Designed using the Omni System, Atlantis: The Second Age is a rules-lite sword and sorcery game with highly flexible rules that put an emphasis on fun and roleplaying rather than on rigid adherence to tomes of rules, tables and charts.

The Atlantean setting has been thoroughly researched and brings our own mythical past to life for players to explore. The Atlantean line will be fully supported by Morrigan Press with a GM Screen (and poster map), monster book and regional guides already in development.

Atlantis: The Second Age will be launched at Gencon Indianapolis this year with wide release to the normal distribution channels happening in September 2005.

The sampler document is available from the front page of the Morrigan Press website. (www.morriganrpg.com)

Wow. Looks mightily impressive. Thanks for the large preview! Looks like it is coming along nicely.

How many pages will this puppy be when finished?

It's in final layout now and the page count is in the high 300's. She'll be a big one for sure.

With the game have specific spells like D&D or will it use that free-form system of Tal?

Since the original Arcanum used classes and levels, why did you switch to a skill-based system for the re-release?

There will be a bunch of sample spells similar to Tal4 but the system encourages spellcasters to create their own unique spells using the spell design system.

The game is essentially skill based but has a mechanic called Callings (similar to class). Callings provide preferred skills and access to Talent Trees (as do some racial selections). Any character can spend XP to increase any skill but this is fairly expensive unless it is on of their preferred skills. The character creation process is this: roll attributes, select race, select or design a Calling, buy equipment, start playing. Players then spend earned XP to increase skills, purchase new Talents or purchase access to new Talent Trees.

Will this be harbound or softback?

We are doing a special limited edition run of hardback books and a normal run of softcover books. It will be roughly around the size of the old 1st edition Warhammer Fantasy game.

Pre-ordering will go live Friday and you will have the option of soft or hard bound at that point.

Will it be possible to acquire a hardbound at GenCon?

If you drop by the booth on Thursday likely yes. We will have a limited number of hardbound copies at Gencon but it will be first come first served so i can easily see them selling out early in the Con. We'll bring as many as possible but the supply is limited. If they sell well enough, we may end up doing another short run but that is not guaranteed.

Also, while supplies last, each purchase of Atlantis at Gencon will also receive a free special d20. These are quite unique and very nice looking dice.
