Release Band of Gnomes Miniatures Game Press Release

First Post
ADW Games just finished a KS featuring Ice Age Mammals miniatures in 28mm scale (think sabretooth tigers, wooly rhinos, and terror birds), and (I think) are planning to follow up with another Kickstarter sometime next month. These miniatures will also be supported with stats for the upcoming Band of Gnomes miniature game announcement below. The game itself looks like a novel approach to tactical mini games, objective-wise (e.g. "non-lethal" sticks out in particular.) If you check the company website and the Ice Age Miniatures KS, you can see some photos of the work so far- pretty amazing prehistoric creatures, and well, gnomes riding giant bunnies. (That's just too weird to pass up...) So here's the press release:

ADW Games and Game Designer Andrea Sfiligoi announce that they are bringing "Band of Gnomes", a non-lethal miniature skirmish game full of fast-paced trickery, illusion, summoning, entrapment, odd magic, queer terrain, golems and elementals, to Kickstarter on July 21, 2014.

Rules for "Band of Gnomes" are being written by Andrea Sfiligoi, the Award-winning game designer behind Songs of Blades and Heroes, Of Gods And Mortals and Fistful of Kung Fu.

"We have chosen this as out next project because it is unique in format and does not compete with anything on the market," says S.E. Lantry, the primary writer for ADW Games. "Plus, we have a lot of cool, surprising expansions already mapped out."

Band of Gnomes will be set in ADW's fantasy version of Doggerland, based on the lost landmass in the North Sea that joined Great Britain and Europe, during and after the last Ice Age.

Band of Gnomes will include rules for Ice Age Mammals miniatures in the Band of Gnomes Core Rule Book. The Core Set will include two Gnome factions, The Lighted Forest and The UnderMountain, and will include rules for terrain and Band of Gnomes battlemap-based games (Terrain and Battlemaps sold separately).

About Andrea Sfiligoi

Andrea Sfiligoi is an independent Italian game designer. He writes and publishes games under the name "Ganesha Games", using the website www.ganeshagames.net as a hub of his many activities. His tabletop games have been published in English, Italian, French, Spanish and German, thanks to the help of a veritable army of volunteer translators, editors, and proofreaders. His best-known titles are tabletop wargames to be played with miniatures (painted, metal or plastic figurines in a variety of scales).

He is the author of the Origins-Award nominated "Song of Blades and Heroes" fantasy skirmish rules. He also wrote games such as Fear and Faith, Mutants and Death Ray Guns, Mighty Monsters, and many others. The gaming system outlined in "Song of Blades and Heroes" has also been adapted to other genres or historical periods by other authors , including Sergio Laliscia who won an Origins award with Song of Drums and Shakos.

Andrea lives in Italy with two cats, hundreds of books, and several thousands miniatures. In addition to gaming, he paints, shoots a longbow and works as an illustrator.

Gnomes, Gnomes, Everywhere

I feel like this is the first RPG product that's ever been weirdly targeted directly at me.

Well, Band of Gnomes is a tactical minis game, but it's part of a larger campaign world called Doggerland that sounds pretty unique- if they don't have an RPG planned, you could surely scrape the lore and use it in the RPG/edition of choice. There was something on ADW's KS or website mentioning pacificist dwarves capturing ice age creatures to release them back into the wild or something wacky like that... I'm hoping ADW provides a more coherent presentation of the campaign world storylines and products soon, especially with their aggressive release schedule for the game and miniatures...

Preliminary Sculpts for Upcoming Band of Gnomes Miniatures Game Kickstarter

The Kickstarter for Band of Gnomes should start on Monday (7/21/14), at which point I'll add a new reply to the pinned Kickstarter announcements post with all the particulars. In the meantime, the Comments page from ADW Game's previous Kickstarter has some preliminary mini sculpt photos that show promise:

Band of Gnomes Kickstarter is LIVE! Ends August 11th

UPDATE: The Band of Gnomes Kickstarter is LIVE!

https://www.kickstarter.com/project...of-gnomes-28mm-miniature-skirmish-game-and-te

Band of Gnomes is a "non-lethal" skirmish 28mm miniatures game featuring, well, gnomes. Illusionist gnomes, druid gnomes, dragonflier gnomes, alchemist gnomes, wall summoner gnomes, bard gnomes, even sabretooth squirrel-riding gnomes.

And walls. Lots and lots of walls, many taken straight from the standard spell list of your Player's Handbook: Fire, Ice, Thorns, Bones, Water, Wind, Stone, Steel, Gears, Worms, et cetera. The difference is the variety of sculpts (about 30) for both 2" and 3" wall variants. So the 3" Wall of Ice sculpt (with embedded dwarf skull and sword) and the 2" Wall of Bones sculpt (basically a big fossil dinosaur skull) are completely different sculpts than their 2" (stacked ice blocks) and 3" (big jumble of various bones and skulls) wall versions. (There is also a "Just Walls" pledge level for those who like their magical wall terrain gnome-free.)

The ruleset by Andrea Sfiligoi is available for reviewers, and is based on his Origins-nominated Song of Blades and Heroes.

One problem: this Kickstarter is very short- it ends August 11th. There is so much more that potential backers will want to see (like the remaining gnome and wall sculpts- many items are still shown in sketch art only.); hopefully the project creator gets those updates on the Kickstarter page soon. But given the ridiculously good stretch goals on their previous Ice Age Mammals Kickstarter, you may want to make sure you don't miss out on a chance to get some great miniatures, terrain, and probably a really good skirmish game, too.
