Another way to look at the bard is like a tribal witch-doctor. He dances, chants and uses rattles and drums instead of the lute or harp. Unlike the tribe's shaman (druid), who is the tribe's connection to nature and the spirits, the witch-doctor's magic is more focused on affecting his people, giving courage and aid to the warriors before and after battle, as well as acting as the tribe's keeper of lore.
