The Book of Silvered Shadows explores the path of those that walk between good and evil, law and chaos. The way of neutrality is often poorly implemented in roleplaying games, with individuals often just selecting the neutral alignment to avoid alignment based effects and then following either a good or evil path anyway. This supplement for 3.5/OGL game systems provides a wealth of ideas and information that makes neutral alignments exciting and dangerous to play.
Author Jason Fahrion opens the book with a valuable summary of what makes the neutral character tic: discussing the nature of Apathy, Balance, Complexity, Fatalism, and Relativity. He then introduces the Primentals, ancient elemental powers that through their own alien plans seek to maintain the balance of the cosmos. This opens the way for Embodiment, allowing players to become superhuman champions of these forces.
Those that understand the true nature of neutrality can eventually unlock access to the elemental planes themselves much like necromancers unlock access to the negative material plane to create undead. These creatures, primordials, are risen dead powered not by negative energy but various planar powers.
