D&D 5E Best adventure for first time DM

A long time player in our group has expressed a desire to DM, as it's his first time doing so he wants to run one of the published adventures.

We've already done both starter sets, out of the abyss, tyranny of dragons and tomb of annihilation, out of the remaining published adventures which do think would be the most suitable for him to run?

Sadras

Legend
Either one of the adventures from the Tales of the Yawning Portal or the Ghosts of Saltmarsh.
A full on AP might be a little too much overhead for a first crack at it, although if pressed and had to pick one I'd say Curse of Strahd.

Hero
I suggest Ghost of Salt March.

He can start with one of the four one-shot adventures to determine if he likes being a DM. If he does, then he can run the superbe Saltmarsh mini-campaign comprised of four adventurers. If he doesn't like being the DM Saltmarsh is not spoiled and another DM can take over.

Thanks for the replies, are Yawing Portal and Ghosts sufficiently different from the originals? We're long time players, and I think a few of the group may have played the originals.

As a player I'd love to try Curse of Strahd, as I've never done Ravenloft, but would it be too much for a new DM? I was leaning to recommend Storm Kings, as it seems a fairly straight forward plot

No, they are almost straight conversions. In face the giant series did not even resize the maps for the new size of giants.

I would recommend doing the Adventurers League modules. They run in parallel to the campaigns but have a unique storyline. You can get them off of DMs Guild fairly cheap. Since you've done ToA:

DDAL07-01 A City on the Edge
Level Range: 1-4 (optimized for 1st level)
Adventure Designer: Rich Lescouflair
Adventure Description: So you’ve finally arrived in Chult. Now that you’ve gotten over the shock of Port Nyanzaru’s exotic beauty, it’s time to get down to business. The five factions await contact and will no doubt have some work for you to do. Reach out to them and let them know that you’re ready to do what needs to be done!
Adventure Length: Five One-Hour adventures

He can run it for you guys and then re-run it at your flgs Adventurers League for strangers to refine his DM skills.

Thank you

The adventure league modules sounds good, I will suggest them to him, I think he'd prefer a physical book, but you never know.
