Ah, it was a show of support, in good fun, from players trying to overwhelm a DM. I'll put in a sarcasm smiley in next time so that's obvious.

Ah, ok. No harsh feelings. To put it into perspective, this wasn't a case of a table full of unruly players trying to bully up on the DM, not at all. It was a case of some relatively inexperienced players (or players much better versed in older editions) who were honestly shocked that the rules worked this way in 5e and were dumbfounded that I ruled that something the PHB called an "especially swift" thing to do could not be done instead of your main Action on your turn, which taking a step away from the design mechanics in 5e *does* seem a bit nuts. Sort of makes me agree with Mearls a bit about 5e botching the bonus action thing, though for the most part I really like how most of the things that count as bonus actions interact with other things that count as actions.
