Brew challenge: What is the most single target damage you can put out in one round at level 20 with any official magic weapon of your choice? (Stat cap is still 20)
My numbers:
Average damage ~770
11FTR/4PLD/3ROG/2SOR
Battlemaster, Devotion, Assassin, Doesn't matter
20STR, 14DEX, 10CON, 8INT, 8WIS, 18CHA
feats: gwf, magic initiate for Hex
Before combat, turn on channel divinity for +4 accuracy, cast hex to give them disadvantage on WIS(perception) or DEX(initiative) and apply basic poison to Hazirawn. Stealth in with a +14 (expertise) and begin the surprise round. As an assassin you get advantage and auto crit during a surprise round.
+12 to hit: 6proficiency + 5str + 2weapon + 4vow -5GWF
8 attacks: 1haste + 1bonus + 3normal + 3action-surge
Basic attack damage: 4d6 + 5str +2weapon +10GWF + 1d6hex + 1d4poison
Smites damage: 19d8: 5lvl1, 3lvl2 - Spend 2 sorcery points to recover a slot
Battlemaster superiority dice: 5d10
Note: 1 point of accuracy (CHA stat boosts) can be traded for feats like another d10 superiority dice. More deadly poisons collected over the course of adventuring would increase the damage

Problem is theorycrafting with AL gear. Not everyone has all the campaign books or wants to spoil the campaign for loot they might not get. Aim for no gear charop and not this stealth bragging you've got going and people will take the challenge.

hazirawn is a +2 gsword which gives an extra 2d6.
a plain gsword would mean only a +10 to hit, and about 150 average damage less. Still slightly above 620 average.

1. You can't cast hex on them and THEN get a surprise round.
2. Recovering a spell slot takes a bonus action, but you have a bonus action to attack.

But more importantly, this isn't a single round challenge - you list multiple actions done before the round, like activating divine challenge (takes an action), casting hex, and going into stealth (and succeeding).

You also list Haste, which you aren't high enough level to cast, so it's coming from someone else. Why not just have a whole party casting various buffs on you to up damage?

It's an interesting idea for a challenge. I'd love to see what you can do in a single round (total) without outside characters buffing you.

You also can't Concentrate on Hex and Haste at the same time. So further drop your damage.

You also don't get a Bonus attack unless you crit, which is far from guaranteed.

TBF, Assassinate is golden in a party that actually practices stealth.

Even more so if they go for gorilla warfare.

Tempest Cleric 2 for Channel Divinity/Lightning Sorcerer 13 for Quicken Spell and other goodies/Fighter 2 for Action Surge/Rogue 3 for Assassinate. Use the highest damage Lightning/Thunder spell out there 3x on a Surprise round for auto-crits. 1 of the 3 castings will have max damage.

Or maybe just an Assassin Rogue 17/Fighter 3 for Action Surge and a Fighting style? The Assassin's level 17 feature is pretty crazy.
