D&D 5E Bring back the hobbit-like halflings for D&D Next!

Personally, I like my halflings more on the Eberron/Dark Sun side-- with the exalted courtesy of civilized halflings being a direct result of having spent your entire life surrounded by halflings, and the larger folk forgetting this at their peril.

Less Bilbo, more Belkar.

And I'm all in favor of halfing sub races, chicke flavored, beef flavored, apple flavored even energy bar type halfings when you're on the go!

Hobit halflings are definitely better than the athletic halflings of 3E and beyond. I like my halfings short, pudgy and stuffed (and preferably equiped with a pipe). I always pictured them more as merchants or thieves, not acrobats.

Bring back the original three 1E flavors of halflings and we'll all get what we want: Hairfoots, Tallfellows, and Stouts.

I like my hobbits but appreciate that others want their choices too, and there's no reason to be mutually exclusive.

I've always liked WFRP v2's hobbits: superficially Tolkien-like, but gluttonous, amoral, and sexually depraved.
