Nice thing to remember. Focused Specialist wizard. Ban evocation and abjuration, then either necromancy or enchantment. Take Dread Necromancer or Beguiler accordingly. Congrats, you have specialist wizards benefits losing nothing but ... ACTUALLY YOU LOSE ALMOST NOTHING. Just make sure you pick up dispelling from an outside source in later levels. Can come in useful from time to time.

Personally, I like human Dread Necro ->Necropolitan. Enough immunities that you will not miss abjuration AND infinite out of combat healing for self. Don't forget to use Practiced Spellcaster on your spontaneous so you can Level up Wizard using the first (and IIRC, 4th too) levels of Magus.

Counterspell: You have access to everything worthwhile. AND spell slots to burn. Could be fun trying it out. You basically walk up to another caster and say 'NO'. One on one, you will likely outlast him by a long shot.

Beguiler/focused Conjurer (ban Illusion, Enchantment, Evocation; get Abrupt Jaunt instead of familiar) probably provides the best versatility and sheer power. However, I'm in love with Nar Demonbinder [Unapproachable East] and think the theme and concept are just great. It meshes really well with Ultimate Magus due to how NDB calculates its caster level: you can basically get full Wizard casting advancement from UM and still max out NDB casting.

Here's a handbook for Ultimate Magus, with heavy emphasis on how you become one. What you do once you're in the class is mostly the same as any normal Wizard, plus a lot more spells/day and some cheap metamagic options. I'm guessing you already know about the Batman/God Wizard concepts, but if you want links, just say so.

Oddly, it makes sense to ban Illusion from the Wizard side, since you get it in spades from the Beguiler side.

And yes, take Abrupt Jaunt instead of a Familiar, since the Familiar won't advance once you get to Ultimate Magus. Instead, burn a feat and take Obtain Familiar. That one advances with your caster level, not your class level, so it's all good. (I'd already thought that one through when I was looking at the Sorc/Wiz version, since it made no sense to have two classes with the same feature, when you could trade one in for something else.)

Plus, if you introduce yourself to others as a wizard who banned illusion, no one will believe you can cast them. They will never see your Beguiler talents coming!

Thanks for the abrupt jaunt/obtain familiar tip.
Small question, do you need obtain familiar before Improved/Planar/etc. Familiar?
Prereqs says ability to get a new familiar. Problem is, even if it is your first, technically you planar familiar is still a 'new' familiar. I know what RAI is but I really don't wanna say goodbye to a familiar if I don't have to.

Be an Illumian with any Krau sigil combination. That gives you +2 CL to all casting classes, not to exceed your HD. Then start Beguiler 1, and take 4 levels of Conjourer. Your 1st level feat should probably be Able Learner (Illumians are Humanoid(Human), so they qualify), your 3rd level feat should be Practiced Spellcaster (Beguiler). That, combined with the Illumian racial feature will keep your CL even throughout your whole progression.

Now when you take Ultimate Magus, and you have one of the 3 levels where you progress only one side, you pick the side with the lower CL. Since both CLs are equal, you get to choose where to put it. Always put it on your Wizard side. The Practiced Spellcaster + Illumian trait will keep the CLs equal.

The end result is 19 levels of Wizard progression and 8 levels of Beguiler progression instead of something dumb like 16 levels of Wizard progression and 11 levels of Beguiler progression. Higher level spells are better than lower level spells. Keep your Wizard casting as pure as possible.

Or you can just keep singing as a free action, cast a spell as a standard action thanks to Melodic Casting (you DO have Melodic Casting, don't you?!), and do whatever with your move action.
