Cadwychs Curios

Cadwych's Curios is a store in [wiki]Hengistbury Village[/wiki]
where adventurers can offload their spoils for coin. It's located just off the main village square, amongst a number of poorer cottages. The owner, [wiki]Cadwych[/wiki]
, will deal in anything that looks antique and is in good condition. He's a very shrewd man, however, and will require a certificate of authenticity from a [wiki]Marrus the Sage[/wiki]
before he accepts any item as magical.

The shop has 2,500gp to dispense for goods brought to him. It takes one month for this amount to replenish, although purchases made at his shop increase this rate. Adventurers who sell items but buy nothing are frowned on by Cadwych. Each time items are pawned and nothing purchased in return, the gold offered for items decreases by 25%. After the third time, he will stop buying any items at all from such persons.

Cadwych's Curio's is also a neutral meeting place for various organizations in the village. A hidden basement is fully furnished with tables, chairs, and other amenities, and is rented out by Cadwych for 5 gp an evening with total discretion. The constabulary relies on covert, unofficial meetings with the town's fledgling thieves' guild (currently just three young miscreants from the Mortimer family) for important investigations and matters of security. As such, it is also a place where adventurers can advertise their services, be they legitimate or illicit. People in the village have little use for this function of the shop (or, indeed, even know about it).

There are some of the items of interest on display, which seem overpriced at first glance:
  • An illuminated tarot deck. Its hand-painted images secretly contain a map. Its only dweomer is one that preserves it from decay. Cadwych knows only that it is magic of some sort, and assumes it is some form of divination. Sells for 500 gp.
  • A lute made of an exotic wood. When played in the forest, trees rustle and birds chirp in time with the music. Marrus the Sage knows Cadwych is in possession of this lute, and will refuse to identify it. Sells for 1000 gp.
  • A small hand bell made of brass. It is not magical in any way, but is extremely old, and contains strange runes on its surface. A glyph of an open hand is surrounded by strange text. Sells for 500 gp.
