Can a paladin worship a non-good god?

I suppose if they worshipped an evil deity, they might have to fight against that deity's clerics and demonic minions (heretics!) while worshipping the God that grants them power?

We have had paladins of St. Cuthbert and Kord, but that is as far out as it got.
