Kodam

Hi!

I played Kodam, a Elven Fighter/Mage (Evocation Specialist) from 1 to 21. The Campaign begann in 2nd Ed an he was converted to 3.0 and lasted for several years. We played 2-3 times a month at maximum. The shift to 3.0 was a major loss in overall Power, despite the new possibility to take Enchantment Spells into his repertoire. :\ He died 3 times in the course of the Campaign and was the sole survivor of the starting group.

1-18 Age of Worms currently. Signs are that we may abandon the campaign, since we're still a good half dozen sessions from completion and there are several good reasons to stop it and restart. We'll see tonight what everyone thinks. That's probably my longest run, and even then there's only one player who's stayed with the same PC the whole time. Some have died; I abandoned my original concept at 10th level when it just wasn't working out with the campaign, and did something else.

Honestly, I'm not that fond of the 1-20 paradigm. I prefer a 3-12 or so. I particularly don't like high level under the 3rd edition ruleset. I know one of the design goals of 4e was to make higher level much more playable, but honestly I'm skeptical that it's going to work out and not be a mess. I think the current system categorically is a mess once you hit the mid-teens or so and beyond. For a variety of reasons.

Multiple times for me.

I had two 2E characters go to 30th level and that was playing those characters for about 5 years. I've had a few others go to 20th.

I have had three characters go epic in 3.x.

One in an adhoc campaign loosely based on the WOTC quasi-adventure path with its first 3.0 modules.

Another in the Age of Worms (ended up 22nd level) AP that went 14 months.

The last character just made 20th in Enemy of my Enemy in the Savage Tide AP which has been running 12 months with one & half 'chapters' to go before the campaign is done.

I never got higher than level 9 (AD&D 1st.ed.). As a DM I had players advance up to level 12 (AD&D 2nd.ed.). In my current 3.5 campaign, one out of 8 characters survived from level 1, he's now level 9. We'll see how long his luck holds :)

Man, I wish. I'm hoping that if my current campaign I'm playing in goes bust, I can convince the DM to change gears and let us continue with the same character, or that another DM doesn't mind me bringing him in.
