Children of the Earth

I've been pondering on using a race in my campaign that is tied closely to the earth, stone, that sort of thing; I want them to be able to partially move through stone at will, be humanoid, and human-like in their outlook (i.e. not good or evil, but capable of any alignment).

Are there any races (player or otherwise) that fit this criteria? I have a vague memory that there is such a race, but it might have been from a novel rather than a RPG.

Of course, I can always make it up, but it'll save time and effort if there was a race already in existence.

Any ideas?

Not sure on the spelling...

I remember a monster from back in the Advanced days called a Galab Duhr?(SP)
It basically looked like a large slab of stone with a face carved into it.
I don't remember ever fighting one or using one in any of the adventures I had designed or dm'd. But the illustration looked cool.....

The EN World kitten
The pech (Tome of Horrors Revised) are along those lines, though they can't move through earth/stone at will.
