Combat Expertise, Attacks of Opportunity

Forgive this question, but I'm separated from my D&D books.

If a character has Combat Expertise and goes into, say, -4 to hit, +4 AC mode whilst fighting a few orcs, and then has Attacks of Opportunity against one of his foes, is his opportunity attack at a -4?

Same question for a standard character fighting defensively (-4 to hit, +2 AC).

Thanks. :)

Yes, when you use Combat expertise, fighting defensively, or even power attack; those minuses apply to all attacks that round.

Note also that with cyclical initiative, that round runs from that character's turn until just as that character's turn comes around again. In other words, that penalty lasts until he deliberately changes it as a part of his own turn.
