Constant Spell Turning?

Hello all,

The Monster of Legend template from MMII lists one of its special qualities as "Reflective Hide" which states, "The creature has a silvery sheen to its skin and is permanently protected by a spell turning effect."

How does a permanent spell turning work? Does the creature just get unlimited spell levels to turn? Or do they get the 1d4+6 (as listed in the spell) and then when that runs out, they get another 1d4+6?

If it is the latter case, then what happens when they don't have enough spell levels left to turn an incoming spell? Are the last few spell levels used up and it gets partially affected? Or, do they instantly get the new 1d4+6 and so the rest of the spell gets turned by that (which is kinda like the unlimited spell levels version).

So how do you think the rules on this work?

Bonus Question! :D
What is up with the spell turning description anyway? Can you turn inflict critical wounds or not?

My interpretation would be that the primary effect of Spell Turning, " Spells and spell-like effects targeted on you are turned back upon the original caster. The abjuration turns only spells that have you as a target. Effect and area spells are not affected. Spell turning also fails to stop touch range spells," is always in effect. That's pretty powerful, but it would seem to be consistent, easy to adjudicate, and probably the intent of the ability. If the creature were particularly chaotic, I might see allowing the second interpretation.
