Sounds like an impulse buy from office Depot or Amazon and am excuse to talk about a thing someone thought felt cool to use

Oh, this was actually the subject of much debate and which ones to buy off of Amazon.

So the answer appears to be that some folks do it or did it, especially in the pre-digital age. Since a lot of the SD FB folks are old school gamers for whom this is their first big RPG purchase in recent years, it makes sense that they might revert to their 1980s behaviors.
