coup de grace too powerful

It was a poorly played combat that lasted all night.

THe fact that one of the players was dragged off by a retriever and everybody didn't seem to mind.

Or the waste of spells like a hold monster on me.

Or that the DM had the vrock doing his spells as a free action and still backing up 5 feet and attacking.

Or that no one could seem to be standing in the right place... ever.

Or that the cleric happened to step out farther in the room than anyone else and got the first attacks on him and so all the fighters had to move over 5 feet to attack.

Or...

It was a bad night. I'm not bitter about dying. I just was surprised at how easy it was to do a CDG.

This should show you that I'm not bitter. I rolled 17,17,17,13,12,8 on my new character. The dead one had 17,14,14,12,12,7. I'm not that upset.

(1) Unlike CDG, a Full Attack action does NOT take a full round to complete.
(2) An action that takes a full round to complete is not COMPLETE until the start of its initiator's next turn.

Incorrect; incorrect. You're thinking of full-round spells.

I thought you couldn't CdG with a weapon that deals subdual damage?

Incorrect (in context, at least). Take a -4 on your auto-hit.

Right.

The problem is with terminology. The rules should have defined a "full action" and specified full attack as a type of full action.

Then we would have action, full action, and 1-round as a clear logical progression.

"Full round" causes lots of confusion.

You have to have a weapon to perform a cdg. Unarmed attacks won't cut it (literally) unless you are a monk (or have the right feat). All you need is a pair of gauntlets though.

Dude, sounds like you died because of stupid actions from certain players and a misinformed DM than because of cdg. That vrock could've been hasted though.

The Sorcerer did not cast 2 spells. Only one. SHe cast a spell to incapacitate me so I would not try to prevent them from attacking. I was Charmed by the Demon.

She did not think to cast Dispel Magic, instead? (Dispel Magic is the bread-and-butter spell vs. other casters.)

The Demon was not attacking you or your allies at the time? (Which would have automatically dispelled the effect...)

I really think your beef has less to do with CDG and more to do with spells that can render a character helpless. (Which a savvy player knows generally apply after a failed Will save and are countered with Dispel Magic and the like.)

Add the feat in Sword & Fist (Death Blow?) that allows you to Coup de Grace with a standard action.

Thats a villain you watch very closely. :D *writes in the Book of Evil ideas*

Check out my Death Blow Ninja in the Sultans of Smack thread for an idea of what a well planned CDG specialist can do. Actually, I made that smackdown in response to CDG, and Death Blow in particular, sucking hairy spider nuts. I can't see anyone CDG'ing in the middle of battle when there are other living guys still attacking you. What a waste of a round.

I think your thinking of regenerating creatures and weapons that can't hurt them.

Though something about killing someone with a sap doesn't seem quite right. Need to do some research...

Hmmm...you know this isn't going to get you many sympathy votes. Saying that you don't mind your character dying because you got a new one with better stats is the nearest thing to walking around with a big sign saying 'I'm a munchkin. Flame me'.

wow, sooo... you're telling us you wouldn't be happy if, say, your girlfriend broke up with you, only to have an even better girl, in all respects, take her place?

for christ's sake, let the guy go already... stop being petty. geez...
