Creeping Doom

Hello all,
do any of you have problems with 3.0 Creeping Doom? The spell is just horribly broken.
1000 points of damage, no save, no SR. The only defense is damage reduction.

Any good fixes? Houserules?

Thanks

A fix I've heard of before 3.5e came out was to assume that the damage was divided up among the squares that were covered by the Creeping Doom. Since it covers 16 squares, a creature in one would take 60 pts (or 62.5, if you can work out how to apply that .5 :)) of damage. A large creature taking up 4 squares would take 250. And so on. Frankly, I think it's better to just use the 3.5e version.
