If it matters, Torn Asunder was a Silver Ennie winner for Best d20 Supplement in 2004. It is still in print but getting harder to find. For the record, we are doing an updated and expanded version for Pathfinder that may be out in pdf around Feb. with print sometime after that.

Another alternative is the Advanced Player's Guide, from Sword & Sorcery Studios. It has critical tables for different types of physical attack, as well as for different types of spells. *shrug* Another contender, or something to research perhaps.

Side question : how does the fumble work?
Much as the hits do: when you roll a 1, that's a threat (of a fumble); roll again, and if you would've missed, draw a card.

You can save, then spend the one type to negate drawing the other though, which is nice. Which means you don't get to use that critical hit, but you're saved from some randomly inglorious fate decreed by those bastards at Paizo. ;)

Here is my "colorful critical hit" system for 3e.

It is cool because you won't get your head cut off unless the damage kills you, but there are a variety of types of wounds, disarming, broken/severed limbs, etc. that can happen to you if you get hit hard enough.
