D&D 5E [D&D 5E] Calculating CRs for low level creatures question

When your calculating the CR for a creature with a fractional CR value and adding +1 to the CR, are you adding a solid +1 to the CR or +1 CR level, taking it to the next fractional level ?

Does CR 1/4 +1 = 1(Rounded down from 1.25) or 1/2 ?

I don't know that there's an actual rle for this. Usually what I do when figuring CRs that have a fraction is to assess how many abilities or tricks the creature has that don't figure directly into its CR calculations and round based on that.

Thanks!

That's what seemed logical to do, but I couldn't find it in the actual wording.

Well the DMG doesn't explicitly say this, it says adjust the rating up or down by 1. To me, the up or down implies up or down on the table by 1 step. If it said add or subtract 1, then I would add or subtract 1 CR from the start value.
