Do they mean D&D minis qualifiers? I didn't think D&D was a competitive game, but rather a collaborative game. Where can one find more information on that event and is it a sanctioned event?

I could have done without using Gary's death! As a way! To promote! Your exciting event!

D&D actually has a long history of being a very competitive game. D&D tournaments are the origin of the famous adventures of Tomb of Horrors, the Slave Lords, White Plume Mountain and many others. The concept is the team of players vs. the complexity of the adventure. You are judged for your success in the adventure and time to completion. Usually the adventure has several puzzles, mysteries and challenges that must be figured out to succeed.Click here learn about a D&D tourney and how to win.

The D&D Championship Qualifier is an official event, but not a Living campaign event. The game uses pre-gen characters (I believe 7th level) so everyone starts on the same page. We will be running many tables of each round and the Qualifier takes place across three rounds of play. Anyone attending the convention can play. Joining the RPGA is completely free and everyone can do it at the convention at the game by filling out a form.

If you have a group of friends who would be an awesome team and undefeatable D&D bad boys, you can show up with a full team of 5 players. However, I suggest pre-reg because these events are going to fill quickly.

D&D Classic Championship Qualifier
Play this event and recieve a special D&D Rewards card.

The D&D Classic Championship Series allows teams of five to play in classic-style events with a new round offered each month at select conventions through July. Gamex is the US Pacific region convention selected for the month of May. Those teams that score high enough to qualify advance directly to the semi-final round of the D&D Classic Championship (formerly known as the D&D Open) at Gencon Indy. This first season centers on the invasion of the Kingdom of Aeris by the Empire of the Crimson Light, with each successive adventure taking the players from the outskirts of the kingdom to its heart: Aerithmas, the City of Waves. So gather your team and grab your dice. You have a kingdom to defend!

We just confirmation about the Championship Adventure...

CCQ1-4 Liberation
The empire has set up 'Re-Education' camps to allow the citizens of Aeris a chance to see that the Imperial morality is right and just. However while some people succumb to Imperial rule and try to make due, others fight. Often those that fight back are taken quietly in the night never to be seen again. The resistance needs them back if they are to retake what they have lost. This is a Classic-style event with characters provided and is a qualifier for the D&D Championship at Gen Con Indy 2008. The D&D Championship Series uses 5 player tables.
