D12: Does it always roll low?

First Post
Okay, the average roll on a D12 is supposed to be 6.5, yet this does not appear to be the case. Out of all the times I've rolled D12 for hit points on anything, I've never once rolled at or above average. After extensive testing and rolling, the average on the D12 came in at a staggering 5.5 as opposed to the 6.5 it should be. It seems as if the D12 always wants to roll lower than it's supposed to.

Has anyone else noticed this anomoly? I have several, and they all roll below average all the time. (In fact, it often takes 20-30 rolls to roll even a single 12.)

I've never noticed the disparity, and I've rolled quite a few. It just may mean you are having phenomenally bad luck with d12 rolls.

But take heart - It DOES mean that one session will come, where you will roll NOTHING but high numbers on that Dread Die. When you see this trend, pick up a Greataxe IMMEDIATELY. It doesn't matter if you are a mage with a non-proficiency penalty - pick it up! :)

Microwave this d12 you speak of. Line up all the other dice outside the doors to the microwave and nuke it while they watch. Make an example out of that low roller. ;)

another option would be to clamp it in a vise while making the other dice watch. Be sure to wear safety glasses though, a d12 evil enough to roll 5.5 on average is sure to aim for your eyes when it finally shatters.

I find this entire thread outrageous. I do my job. I do my job even though I'm hardly ever used anymore. Does the d20 have to put up with this kind of second guessing? I think not. I'm sure your sampling methods were flawed and I'm going to file a grievance with the International Brotherhood of Minatures, Dice and Game Pieces (Local 34) over this harrasment.

I'm sorry, d12, but you just haven't been a teamplayer. I'm afraid I'm going to have to replace you with 2d6. Those d6's are just plain cheaper and
they tend to roll better on average anyways. I'm sorry. Security will escort you back to the dicebag, so you can gather up your things.

Nah, you're nuts, or you need to make a better altar to the dice Gods.

I have an NPC goblin barbarian who has been in my campaign since level 1 (they're now level 21!). I think for a majority of his hit-dice I've rolled 10, 11, or 12. With a 16 constitution, he has around 300 hit points at 21st level. Upon attaining level 21, however, I think I rolled a 3. What a buzzkill.

It's bad die karma. At one point, you mocked a D12 without good reason. It's coming back to haunt you now.
