Database error for only a *part* of the forums?

This is bizarre. I can't access the play by posts subforums, but the main forums - and this one - seem to be working fine...

Thought I should mention it. Hopefully it's just a short term glitch (it's been ongoing for at least 10 min though)

This has continued to occur intermittently. Here is the error code:

PHP Warning: Error while sending QUERY packet. PID=16439 in ..../includes/class_core.php on line 1394

PHP Warning: mysqli_query(): (HY000/2006): MySQL server has gone away in ..../includes/class_core.php on line 1394

It's not just the play-by-post forums - I've had this happen once or twice this week while trying to access the main forum list. Problem goes away if I just try again.
