Pass without trace seems to imply that you leave no scent behind, applying specifically to tracking.... however... using that as a base might give a mage something to work with. =)

Is there a way to defeat blindsight?

Yes

Improved invisibility and attacking (missile, spells) from outside a creatures blindsight range.

Of course, you'll have to get pretty far away from older dragons, they have a great blindsight range. Besides, how close would you really want to get to a hostile dragon?

Unfortunately, just "hiding" won't work, as the text for Blindsight specifically states that a creature with Blindsight does not need to make Spot/Listen rolls to be aware of the location of opponents in range.

That's true of characters using normal sight, too, under the right conditions. With some senses, like normal sight and hearing, there's a certain point past which you have to make checks to spot something - whether it's hiding or not. With other senses, like darkvision, the cutoff is absolute - if your darkvision has a 60' range, no successful check, no matter how spectacular, will let you note something 75' away.

Blindsight simply falls into the later category. Such a sense doesn't make those who possess it infallible, just independent of little things like light sorces...

Is this eratta, ecause it's not in the DMG entry for blindsight [first printing, though]?

Also, there is no hide in shadows in 3e. Just hide.

But this is as opposed to a blind creature that would need to roll listen checks to know the location of opponents in range. A sighted creature doesn't need to roll to locate creatures, unless they are hiding.

Smell is cancelled simply by moving the air (some minor wind spell). It doesn't need to be removed completely, only to not reach the creature.

In Lords of Madness (3.5) there is a feat called Dark Stalker, which allows you to hide from creatures with various non-visual senses...

Benefit
When you hide, creatures with blindsense, blindsight, scent, or tremorsense must make a Listen check or a Spot check (whichever DC is higher) to notice you, just as sighted creatures would make Spot checks to detect you. You cannot hide in plain sight unless you have that ability as a class feature. In addition, you can fl ank creatures that have the all-around vision special quality.

Edit: ffs, thread necromancy. You have tricked me again.
