The criticism of their behaviour remains valid regardless of how the product turns out to be. I even, fate help me, actually looked at FATAL before passing judgement on that too. Criticism sight-unseen is the problem.

I don't play much d20, but I do write for it. I can see some of the feats etc in this being useful for political or protest oriented play in general. The idea of a campaign/game set in and around this sort of situation or area is appealing though and a great deal of the info is generally useful. I don't get as much time to play as I should like these days but I think an Unknown Armies or @ctiv8 game set arounda clinic is on the cards.

Your quotation btw is pretty much what I would have said had it turned out to be *insert derogatory swearword implying lack of quality*.

As to there being nothing that couldn't have been written sight unseen, I changed my mind over the advanced class and made mention of ways it could be used in a wider context that weren't apparent from the release.

Jim, is there any way for me to read this thing other that purchasing it, or are you saying that the only intelligent way to decide whether it's worth buying is to buy it?

Urizen, same question.

Anytime we decide whether to buy a PDF, we are doing so based on "speculation"...but hopefully informed speculation. Circumstantial evidence. We read the previews, we read the press release, we take what we know about the designer and the studio (i.e., Recolored Flipped Monkeys), and we make a decision.

Unfortunately, there isn't a demo, so you're right. the only way to buy many pdfs is based on speculation. With regards to_this_ product, however I see much more speculation based on the theme of this product than I have for many other products.

On the positive side, I think this debate is good for the industry.

Louis could help his situation by putting up a demo, though I doubt he will.

Maybe you just shouldn't have done it, eh?

'I know you are but what am I?' come come, you can do better than that.

How does this merit an AdC, for God's sake? What role does an doctor who specifically provides abortions (incidentally, "abortionist" is the preferred term used by antiabortion activists -- another indication that this product is, if you'll pardon the expression, ill-conceived) provide during an adventure that no other medical practitioner can? Does the character get abortions of opportunity? Abortions as a swift action? Abortion finesse? How is this not a very dumb idea?

Why does a paramedic merit different treatment to a brain surgeon? What about a field doctor compared to a civilian doctor? Specialist doctors don't necessarily see a lot of play but to me this advanced class seemed to be more about the experience of being a specialist in these procedures. Its a reactive class with certain forced 'survival' skills given the problems that these people have.

You could well take a similar approach to an animal research scientist, people who are similarly targetted and who gain a similar awareness from the fact that they are targetted.

I have, however, read your previous groundbreaking work about how fat chicks suck.

Slayer's Guide to Female Gamers right?
That's another good example of kneejerking, people assumed it was about killing women *eyeroll* and then others have missed the point of what it was actually making fun of. Fortunately women seem to get the joke when they buy it.

Do you often include links to products you want to sell in your innocent, sociopolitical commentary? Or is that just when you're making those comments in Chris Pramas' well-read blog?

Depends if there's synchronity with events or their comment and whether it's happend around the same sort of time or not. If one wrote a book about some other event which was then reflected in reality one might well comment on the timing, no?

But then you're just desperate to take a crack at me for some reason.

With short products it's hard to do effective demos without giving up much of the substance of the work effectively for free.

First of all, if someone believes that the morality of slavery merits some kind of controversy, they're a loon. Slavery is wrong. Secondly, if someone feels the need to project such a loony argument back to a fantasy world based on a historical system of slavery that hasn't existed for 500 to 1000 years, I would conclude that they were reaching. A lot. And thirdly, recoloured flipped monkeys.

Well... Slavery is still practised today. All over the world in fact. Buying men and women from developing countries and putting them to work is a multi-millioen dollar industri today. The people end up as sexslaves, prostitutes and slavelabour on farms and in sweathouses. This occurs all over the world, right now.

A product detailing this industri, could be interesting as well, if done maturely, though I am certain alot of people feel strongly about this subject as well...
