Does a caster threaten while casting a full round?

As the title suggests, if a caster is casting a spell with a casting time of 1 round or more, does he threaten the surrounding area while doing it? Seems kinda odd he would be able to make AoO's while casting.

The specific situation where it came up is actually this: a psion manifesting an Astral Construct while standing next to a prone enemy. If the enemy stands up, would the psion get an AoO? Also, a quick side question, even while prone you still threaten your surrounding area, right? At a -4 penalty of course, but still.

Prone characters still threaten, yes. Many people tend to think otherwise.

As far as casting goes ...

You threaten any area in which you could make a melee attack. If someone taking the Total Defense action can make AoOs, then someone casting a 1 round (or greater) casting time spell can make AoOs.

So which is it? :)

When you use Total Defense you can't make AoO's, right? At least, if the SRD is correct..

So what you're saying is that the caster wouldn't threaten? :)

You don't threaten.

Cast a Spell
A spell that takes 1 round to cast is a full-round action. It comes into effect just before the beginning of your turn in the round after you began casting the spell. You then act normally after the spell is completed.

When you begin a spell that takes 1 round or longer to cast, you must continue the invocations, gestures, and concentration from one round to just before your turn in the next round (at least). If you lose concentration after starting the spell and before it is complete, you lose the spell.

You only provoke attacks of opportunity when you begin casting a spell, even though you might continue casting for at least one full round. While casting a spell, you don’t threaten any squares around you.
