I don't think that higher level characters will necessarily have +4 or +5 weapons. Because certain classes can cast GMW, a weapon that is +1 with Flaming and Holy enchantments might be more popular than a straight +4 weapon. Once the GMW hits the weapon, the bonus goes up and it keeps its other properties.
When my cleric can scrounge up enough money, I plan on making my Mace +1 Holy, because I can cast GMW to increase its power.
