Doom of the Savage Kings

For a brief moment Father Beacom stares at the collected group. Then he raises his hands palm up to the sky and intones in a loud voice.

"The Goddess holds justice in one hand and mercy in the other. Which is to be bestowed upon these lowly followers will be revealed in Justicia's own good time."

The father turns his cold attention back to the group. "Devoted followers of Justicia know the importance of cutting the bonds of the material world to grow closer to the goddess in order to receive her blessings. Brother Haams will collect your offering to the goddess."

Brother Haams wordlessly stands and approaches holding out cupped hands.

Homer scrunches his brows together in thought then withdraws ten copper coins to put in the cupped hands of the brother.

Alois dug in his pocket and pulled out a gold piece, which he placed gingerly into Brother Haams' dingy palm. Gratien crossed his arms and said and offered nothing other than a stern look. Lizt tipped five coppers into the pot and gave Brother Haams a look that dared him to ask for more.

Father Beacom bares his teeth in what you presume is intended to be a welcoming smile but looks more like the welcome one might receive from a rabid dog. Brother Haams' nose twitches at the glare from Lizt and his hands close over the coins. His eyes meet Alois' and he inclines his head in acknowledgement of the man's greater donation.

"Come," commands Father Beacom. The priest turns and enters the building, probably the only stone building in all of Hirot. Brother Haams follows and ducks out of sight into a side door and Brother Aker takes up a position by the door like a door guard.

The interior of the Chapel of Justicia is empty of other worshipers, not surprising with Father Beacom's gloomy, hard-nosed stance on Hirot's current troubles. The worship area is overlooked by a stained glass rose window. The image depicted within is a warrior-woman, presumably Justicia, slaying a wolfish demon with a great warhammer. Below the stained glass window is the altar hidden from view by a curtain.

Father Beacom gathers the group together and stretches out his arms to begin a long-winded prayer extolling Justicia's virtues, denouncing humankind's failings and begging for the goddess's mercy. It is during this that you notice the youth, Llorre, has attached himself to the group as he shuffles and his eyes dart about the chapel. Finally, Beacom winds down and gives the traditional ending to prayers.

"May those gathered receive justice or mercy as they deserve."

Kurl looks at his newly blessed comrades and stifles a harrumph. He wisely keeps his mouth shut during the proceedings, but makes mental notes and what parts of the architecture seem the most flammable.

Lizt's rolls her eyes at Alois. When she notices Kurl looking similarly disgusted with the proceedings, a small smirk lifts the upper corner of her lip. So. Not the only one irritated with priests, then.

Alois inclined bis head respectfully to Brother Beacom. He next turned to Homer. "Are we ready to go?"
