[sblock=assumptions]I'm assuming (and as a result making an @$$ of you and umption) that everyone has probably peeked at the map from Hoofchew by now, so you'll know the general layout of the room.

The real question is... is your DM so lazy that he would engineer a combat encounter that doesn't require him to make his own map?[/sblock]
Ribeye falls in behind your group as you make your way into the main room. The interior appears to be in better shape than the building's exterior... of course that may not be saying much. The rooms seems to have several hastily cleaned, bloody smears... most of them including drag marks that lead out the back. There is also a great deal of fire damage behind the bar, and around the room in general... which still smells faintly of roast pork, even over the smell of drunken dwarf.

It isn't hard to tell that the Redboots have been partying hard for, at least, several days... if not over a week. There are dwarves, and a few halflings & short humans, in varying stages of inebriation all over the place... from sitting at the scorched bar or dancing some sort of drunken-shuffle riverdance, to passed out at tables or under the stairs. An exhausted barwench spilling ale & foam from a tray filled with mugs, hands one off to Ribeye and offers them to your group as well. The dwarf continues to lead the group past the revelry to the stairs, and tosses the bone from his haunch of 'meat' to a dog laying at their base (He then commences to wipe off his greasy fingers on its coat as it chews). He looks back to insure he's still being followed, before starting up the stairs.

Either a very large dwarf (or a very short, bearded ogre) is standing watch at the head of the stairs, but he steps back to allow your procession to pass. The second floor is much cleaner & better organized than the one below, both the area and the people in it. There are archers and crossbowmen posted at the windows, and they seem to be quite serious and quite sober. The only other person up here already is a very important-looking dwarf, and he appears to be that "da Boss" person everyone keeps mentioning. He stands from his table, and approaches you with a meaty hand outstreched in greeting... "Hey there! Name's Kargyll... Kargyll Redboot, and I hear ye've been askin' around about Dennis. Now what would make ya do that?"

Morvannon takes one of the proffered mugs and downs half of the ale in one long swallow as the group heads for the stairs.

[sblock=OOC]Been a stressful day so far. Poor boy needs a drink. ;)[/sblock]

Looking around at the group, he steps forward to take Kargyll's hand in a firm grasp. "We appreciate the courtesy." Making first-name introductions around the party, he finishes with, "Although, one slight correction. We haven't been asking around about Dennis in particular, we were asking about someone else and his name was mentioned. I gather he's one of your Red Boots?"

Mikara looks around and scopes the room with a conscious effort not to look like she's doing it.

How many armed people? Just crossbows? What else?
Where are they in the room?
Is there a door to the room?
Can it be barred?
Are there windows? How many Where?

[sblock=Skill Check:]I'll take ten on this one for passive perception. 1d20+10 = 20[/sblock]

On the way to the stairs Kamotz takes a moment with each passed out Red Boot, to check their pulse... When he finds that they are still alive he sighs and begins propping them up, snatching water here and there and leaving it by the unconscious members.

Glancing Morvannon down an entire tankard of ale Kamotz wonders if he will be doing the same treatment for him in a moment. If not passed out, he'll be drunk within ten minutes...

Kamotz grabs some meat from a tray just before heading upstairs, wolfing down as much as possible, then throwing the leftovers to the dog. He leans down to rub the dog while talking with his mouth full
You're a good boy, can even be pet while you're eating...
Kamotz gives the dog one final scratch and turns to follow the group upstairs, food now chewed.

Last thing before heading up, Kamotz grabs one of the tankards of ale, and follows along with the group to the upstairs.

MMmm, Magnus you have to try some of this... It's so good. Morvannon, I see why you downed it!

Kamotz reaches the top of the stairs just in time to hear Kargyll's introduction and the ensuing response'. When Morvannon makes Kamotz introduction he lifts his tankard, Cheers Kargyll Red Boot. Hell-of-a party you have going here. Then takes a long draught of the smooth and tasty liquid.

[sblock=OOC]
Insight check to see how Kargyll feels about Dennis, and judge if he is planning an ambush on us. Natural 20 = 29 insight!!! That is two critical insight rolls for Kamotz...

Diplomacy check, get on Kargyll's good side. 23 (includes Morvannon bonus.

Magnus takes one of mugs of ale, happily and sloppily, slugging some down as he followed the others up. When they topped the stairs he looked around at the space they were in. The archers didn't seem to interest him so much as the geometry of the room. Looking up and around he studied the space, whatever his train of thought was though it was inturrupted at the mention of his name. Blinking he came back to the matter at hand.

Huh? Oh...Hehehe...a runaway ring ran off with a woman in tow...perhaps another too?...You haven't lost a pair of red boots have you?

Magnus took another big gulp of ale, most of which made it into his mouth.

Tristan looks on as the others broach their discussion with the dwarf. For all Ribeye's thinly veiled threats, the "Boss" seemed in good spirits, so far at least. But the gathered archers and crossbow men are of far greater concern. He glances around briefly, but mostly focuses on the conversation at hand.

He stands near the others, silent. His hand twitches slightly as he waits, but he doesn't allow it to rest near his blade. No reason to atagonize anyone if this whole situation could be resolved with a brief chat.

Has anyone PM'd SeaPainter, or emailed him? I don't want to be redundant about it.
