Errata 3.5e (and Second Printing)

Howdy.

Fortunately I was "out-of-touch" with DND when the 3e books first came out. It turns out that the books (particularly the PHB) was full of mistakes. The errata list was huge and they eventually (3 mos. later?) published the second printing of the PHB with most of the problems fixed.

Has anyone been able to review the books ahead of time? I remember when the ELH came out and how quickly everyone found the errors. I would hate to buy the books and have them be full of _easy_ mistakes... only to see them have a second printing with the mistakes fixed.

Then again, I don't really want to wait... :)

Thoughts?

Second printings usually come around a significant time after the first one. Are you up for waiting a year? I couldn't wait that long. But then, as my handle suggests, I'm kind of a dork.

Then why not be a cheap dork (or a cheap SOB like me) and download the revised SRD when it comes out? At least you'll know what errors have been present in the new revised book (Andy Smith -- responsible for SRDs -- tend to extract them word for word and get legal approval "as is.") :D

Please don't overestimate me.

If I don't have the 3.5 books, then I'll be using old books. My 3.0 books will automatically become useless. There's a very good chance they'll crumble to dust under the gaze of the 3.5 sun. And I have to have all of the 3.5 books otherwise by books won't match. Surely you can see the dire importance of that.

I am not meerly a victim of consumerism. I am committing seppuku with the katana of marketing.

Can I be your kaishaku ("second," the person who is honored to take your head off in the ritual suicide)?

Don't worry, I'll use the katana of infomercialism (basically a long "Miracle blade II").

Not gonna buy 3.5e in July, but perhaps at Christmastime (depends on the release of Second Printing).

IIRC, WotC was surprised by how well PH 3.0 sold; that's why there was a second printing so (relatively) soon. Note that there still hasn't (to my knowledge) been a second printing of the MM or DMG.

So, how soon WotC does a 3.5e second printing depends upon how sales match their expectations. If they underestimate sales, you'll probably be in luck. If they correctly estimate (or overestimate) sales, you may have a long(er) wait.

That's my guess, anyways.

Yes, correct, a company is not about to make a new printing of a book while there are still first printings to be sold. I really don't imagine too many mistakes. This is not a whole new edition with whole new content. There will be areas that are completely unchanged, allowing the proofreaders to more intently focus on the changing areas.

Honestly, guys, we're talking about WotC here.

So to answer you question, yes, there will be lots of errors in the 3.5 books.
