Kickstarter Fabled Lands: The Serpent King's Domain now live on Kickstarter

First Post
Good day! I've posted before about the gamebook-related projects I and my friends in Megara Entertainment put on Kickstarter (e.g.), all based on classic "solo role-playing" or "Choose Your Own Adventure"-style books. Now we've launched an interactive experience like you'd expect from an open-world videogame, but that can't collapse on you if the power goes out. We introduce you to Fabled Lands: The Serpent King's Domain.

And we ask your help in bringing it to life. The project is here:

A FREE DEMO is here:

The key in gamebooks is that, unlike a normal book, you choose for yourself what role to play, where to go and what to do. This is the first gamebook series to be wholly non-linear: these books are not intended to be read in any specific order, and you can travel from place to place - and book to book - as you wish. Strive to overcome villains and monsters or spend the whole game as a merchant trader plying the seas. Craft enchanted artefacts out of legend or master the mysterious spirit-walking ways. Your destiny is in your own hands and there are no limits on your imagination.

We have quite a cast on board in development, including original authors Dave Morris and Jamie Thomson, contemporary author Paul Gresty (from Arcana Agency: The Thief of Memories), and classic artists Russ Nicholson and Kevin Jenkins. Kevin, by the way, may be recognized as concept artist on Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor 2, World War Z, and more.

With your help we can fund the art to make this exciting world all the more immersive. So please take a look, share it and the demo with your friends, and pledge if you are able. Thank you for reading!

I loved the Fabled Lands when they first came out. I still have them in very good condition waiting for my son to reach the age where he can go through them.

I'm glad! We're finding not only that a lot people loved the originals, but a lot of new people are interested in this "open-world book" idea. It seems to scratch a particular itch that we didn't know we had.

Thank you for your kind words!

Our project is out of its first week, and it's been quite a start. Fabled Lands: The Serpent King's Domain was funded in the FIRST 45 MINUTES! We are incredibly grateful for your support!

Our little "open-world book" seems to be catching the imagination, and we'd welcome more people. Have you tried our demo yet? Perhaps this "let's play" video will convince you:

Now we are most of the way through our goals and stretch goals, which we summarize on one big "art meter." Our main push is to fund art by the original artists, and, to do so, we're offering pledge levels such as the opportunity to sponsor artwork directly and have the content (a place or character) named in your honor!

Please come by, try out the demo, share it (the link and the demo) with your friends, and post wherever you may go online.

We'll run until August 3. Thank you!

Fabled Lands: The Serpent King's Domain has entered its final week! We are now a staff pick, we've completely funded all the artwork by classic artist Russ Nicholson, and we're looking to the future.

If you don't yet believe that this sort of game is for you, these kind folks have hosted an essay by all three of the authors:

The idea of an open-world book is a special one and I think it would appeal to many. There is the opportunity to have your name in the book itself, including one last pledge for having a landmark named in your honor. Please come on by, pick up a great game, and help us fund the future of the series!
