Favorite Cleric

What was your favorite cleric that you have ever played or seen played?

To start off, I'll give mine.

Granny. A homely older Dwarven cleric who was on an eternal quest to spread joy and cheer. It was a fun character from my old AD&D games. Granny was a distinguished pastry cook and tended to cast aid or bless whenever people were down. She would also go out of her way to heal even the smallest injuries.

Grundar Claddon. He was my gold dwarf cleric in my buddies 3.0 Forgotten Realms campaign that we played for over 3 years. He started with a Con of 20. By the time the campaign ended he was 13 level Cleric, 2nd level fighter and had twice as many hit points as anyone else in the group and proved to be nigh unkillable.

I made great use of the spell Shield Other, I was a hit point socialist and the trap finding thief's best ally. I also tended to be the most powerful damage dealer in the group thanks to his magic Maul, power attack, and some choice buffs.

Also he was enchanted by a magical artifact, kind of like a deck of many things, that gave him permanent Freedom of Movement and allowed him to cast Web 3/day.

Those were great times.

Mother Tucker- I just love the name. Tucker was an NPC female cleric of St. Cuthbert that a friend of mine used in the 3.5 game he ran. She was crotchety and loved smacking people with her cudgel.

Indo Ishivin- A chaotic neutral (with evil tendencies) cleric of Talona that I ran in a friend's high level 3.5 game. Indo was a notorious con man. He would put on grand shows (think old time southern revival) complete with snake handling and real faith healing, intended to make other deities (with less powerful clerics nearby) look bad. He also had a penchant for taking craps in public water supplies.

Legend
Maxim Thunderhammer: A dwarven Crusader (F&A) who was once a simple guard in a dwarven outpost. The fort was attacked by orcs and during the fight, he was knocked unconscious by an orc. While out cold, he recieved a vision from Moradin to go out and face evil. He awoke the only survivor, and immediately enrolled in the local temple of Moradin.

(Note: it was never discussed if Maxim DID have a vision of Moradin or was merely suffering blunt skull trauma)

Maxim had a simplistic worldview: Moradin good, orcs bad, everything else fell somewhere in between. Despite his good wisdom, he was oblivious. He often asked anyone (dwarf or not) if "they'd considered a close, personal commitment to Moradin?" (complete with tracts!) He learned elven from three different sources (a half-elf, a gray-elf liar, and a human who spoken elven) so he never did learn in properly; leading to all manners of fun mistranslations. Maxim though, was known for some of his quotations...

"Worship Moradin!" (battle cry)
"Ye though I walk through the shadow of the valley of the dead, I will fear no evil cuz I have the biggest dang hammer in the whole dang valley."
"Only Moradin can judge me now!!!"
Maxim: "What would Moradin do" Other team members: "Hit stuff." Maxim: "Damn Right!"
"If dragons are bad, and liches are worse, that makes dracoliches pretty dang awful"

Maxim took on such a life of his own, others could role-play him with amazing accuracy during games I had to miss.

He was an amazing character and perhaps the best dwarf I'd ever played.

Kel, a young, idealistic, mostly clueless, and incredibly violent priest of the Sovereign Host. His favorite expression was "...put to the sword." He had a bad habit of acting on his own intuition, made worse because he was never wrong.

His most telling moment, however, was when an NPC congratulated the group for uncovering the vast YuanTi conspiracy, and then asked what evidence they had when they assaulted the temple.

Kel's response was befuddled, uncertain, and oddly perfect: "Evidence?"

My favorite was one I played, Kraagor Darkfist. A purposely stereotyped LG dwarven cleric. his deity was a homebrewed one, Etina, a LN goddess of time and order. He was grotesque in rancid scent, shaggy apperance, and crude manner of speaking, or as I liked to call it: "Charisma 6, and proud of it!" Never have I gone to such great lengths to describe my character's breath, or appearance (such as the time for a costume party he went as a green hag, trying to be as authentic as possible). As with any stereotypical dwarf, he was an arms and armor crafter, and proudly used his own products, even turning down a found +3 axe we found at one point because he didn't feel right using something other than his own handiwork, at the time only a +1 sacred axe. He was also very knowledgeable, having the domain, collector of stories skill trick, lore of the gods spell frequently cast, massive library of books, and most importantly, Ancestral Knowledge feat (use wis on knowledge checks, make knowledge checks untrained*). So he knew just about everything, but communicated it poorly, and others were loathe to seek advice from him. Even in support of his friends, he sounded condescending ("Don't worry, I dinnae' very well expect a human ta swing a hammer much harder than tha, so ye doin' fine!"), to the point that his own allies would root against him when he would fight in the arena.

*Man, was it fun for our group, out of character, to make jokes about exactly what that meant. Any kind of knowledge, no matter how random or obscure, he automatically had a massive bonus, about +18, in. My personal favorite was "Knowledge (kama sutra): +18"

My current 4E Elven Cleric of Avandra, Colben. This is the only cleric that I haven't felt forced into playing, and it is a lotta fun.

He's in his mid-50's, so fairly young, and a bit too sure of himself. He knows less about Avandra than the Warlock of the party, arbitrarily mixing "bold" and "luck" into plenty of sentences where he tries to justify his logic. He actually has the lowest religion skill in the party. That said, he believes strongly in Avandra's themes and tries to be a good messenger of the religion. He just hasn't spent enough time studying the religion, as he can't sit still for long.

In combat, if something hits him in melee, his favorite reaction is to immediately sanctuary himself and second wind, with a healing word if necessary. He is afraid of death, and doesn't like seeing terrible wounds on himself or others. When the dwarf fighter in the party went to negative HP for the first time, stabilizing his bloody body was quite the ordeal.
