Mark Finnemore, Between Honor and Glory
Julie Frost, Bitter Honey
Lance Hawvermale, A Secret of the Trade
John Hitchens, Eyes of the Spider
Eric J. Juneau, Playable Character

Aaron Kesher, Sight for Sore Eyes
Andrew Knighton, Leprosaria
Tracie McBride, On the Border and Rush Hour
Ken McCoy, In the Shadows of the Everwös
Duncan Sandiland, The Heist

Third Prize:

As it turned out, we couldn’t settle on just one story for this award – there was a lot of competition and, in fact, we could barely settle on three! All of our winners here will receive the full cash award originally specified for this placing in the competition, as well as publication in the anthology and a free copy thereof. Without further ado:

Melissa Cuevas, Remember When
Michael D. Turner, The Jewel Below
Donald Jacob Uitvlugt, Odin’s Last Boon

Second Prize:

The battle for the top spot turned out to be surprisingly tight as well, with two authors of four stories slugging it out with each other and our third place winners for the top positions. The prose styles of our two finalists might in some respects be compared to Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser, although in this case it was the Mouser who came out on top. Readers of Fight On! and hard-charging heroic fantasy will nonetheless be very glad to make the acquaintance of our second place winner,

Kristen Lee Knapp, author of Weregild and Scaling the Tower.

First Prize:

As wiser (if severed) heads than ours have sometimes said: in the end, there can be only one. From pretty early on in the reading period we were all blown away by the stylish, mind-bending phantasmagories of our winning author, and although many of the tales above complicated the battle, in the end he held the gold. Please congratulate our grand prize victor,

A. H. Jennings, author of How Pell Left and Owasa.

Many thanks and congratulations to all our fantastic authors!
