D&D (2024) Final Guesses: packet 7 subclasses

Well, they are oddball choices...but it fives the Sorcerer the identity of the oddball, off the wall caster, with Wild Magic or Psionics or Modrons. Makes sense when theynlaid it out, and all the Tasha's options are up to date with their current standards of design and popularity.

It gives a non-Edgelord option, which I appreciate.

Yeah, guess they changed their mind at some point in the past 6 months?
The thing was aberrant and clockwork were both already doing what people wanted. We wanted shadow, divine and storm to reach that level. It feels like a punt rather than a chance to update other sorceries.

I would say their major concern here was providing a spread of unique options for the new core book (like the Aberrant Sorcerer provides a core Psion, and nothing in any other Class reps Mechanus like Clickwork does), not worrying about updating every existing Subclass. Those others will still worm with the new base Class, and in a few years there will be a new "X's Y of Everything" at any rate.
