I finally figured out how to put this into the thread by means other than an excel attachment. Hopefully, now that it is easier to read, I will get more responses to my Warmage Variant Spell List. Please give me any advice and suggestions that you may have, as well as the reasons and logic behind why you feel it should be the suggested way. Also, I would ask that you keep in mind that I personally feel that the Warmage is a little overpowered to begin with, and as such, this spell list may seem a little less powerful than the original, but I would like to keep a little that way to make the Warmage a little more balanced. Thanks

I like the list overall. It looks like you've put quite a bit of effort into it. It looks like you've taken out pretty much all of the necromancy spells, but as someone who plays a warmage, I'm begging you.... put Finger of Death back in! I used it just this past week to take out a big baddie. It's the second time I've politely asked the DM to roll a nat 1 on a save, and both times, he did! First time was a fort save for a frost giant, and this time was a fort save for a plant creature.

But yeah.... put Finger of Death back in. It fits the MO of the warmage, at least in my (skewed) opinion.

But thank you for the suggestion. Of all of the save or die spells, it would be one of the few I would consider reinserting.

I think Scintillating Pattern was included since it was intended that Warmages eventually meet the spell requirements for Archmage. Same thing for the necromancy stuff. Mastery of Shaping is a good thing to shoot for if the warmage cares about precision.

I can see cutting Flamestrike (divine damage is a bit odd for them), but I think Firestorm at least is important for the mass slaughter aspect of the class. It has one of the biggest areas around for a damaging spell, which seems like it'd fit nicely with their battlefield uses.

Lightning Ring is no substitute for Horrid Wilting, especially since the caster level on the Lightning Bolts is only 5, thereby rendering the spell useless against SR. Horrid Wilting is one of the best blaster spells around, even if its school is rather odd, so it's rather cruel to remove it because you don't seem to want warmages with necromancy. Too bad there's no evocation spell like Horrid wilting.

The removal of scorching ray is unusual; has this been removed in general?

The switches for Avalanche, Firebrand, Electric Loop and Chain Missiles seem good. Mass Fireshield... What were they thinking?

With the removal of the save or dies, some debuffs and battlefield control, the class seems much narrower. Although you seem to disagree, the class doesn't seem particularly strong in the first place, so you might want to be careful about taking too much off.

Can everyone please take a final look at my Variant Spell List for the Warmage and give me final comments. I think its balanced, maintains the Warmage flavor, and is just all around fun times. If you have any final suggestions let me know, otherwise I'll consider it good. Thanks to everyone for their help up to this point, it has been greatly appreciated.
