But my drawings are free to make. (Granted the tablet costs way more than the minis. Although paints can be expensive so maybe it evens out.)

The nice thing with drawing is that I can get more variety. With models I'd either have to make my own 3D models or kitbash. I did notice the wide variety of Beholder models people have made. I resisted the urge to try to collect them all.

Wasn't entirely happy with my orange beholder design. The one on the right is the new version.

I don't think of beholder color as one color. Waterdeep and the North had a blueish beholder. Widlspace had an orangish color. Not sure what color you would consider the Beholder on the cover of one of the Spelljammer boxed set. But even with that the gas spore could be recolored if the color is the problem. For my beholder version of orange my wife complained that it looked like a sick plant and needed to be green.
