Well, I think we took care of most of the issue with Creation points, though we still didn't clairify if you need them in the inn or not.
But clearly the players made Wizards before that, and they are still in trouble because it is incredibly difficult to get new spells, and the Energy Substitution feat in LEW didn't exist until recently and now that it does, it is much much weaker than normal.

I might try a druid as a second character, but now I'm thinking of a Monk/Druid to be a Wild Shaping fiend... um, eventually.

Some people get on well enough with just the core spells, actually. ;) Regarding Energy Substitution, read what I posted in the proposal thread.

Well, it is certainly possible for some choices of specialisations to be okay with core spells only, but the Wizard, with the possibility of filling up spellbook after spellbook with as many spells as he can buy is at an incredibly severe disadvantage when limited so, compared to, for instance, the Psion, who never gets enough Powers Known to pick up all the goodies from the XPH anyway.

As for Energy Substitution, I can't figure out which post you mean--if it's the one about Sonic, it would be easy enough to remove Sonic.

How is the wizard limited, again?

So far as I can tell, nearly any spell a character would ever need is in the core. All that's released in additional books is flavor and a few new executions of old ideas.

Seriously, how many spells do you really need? The big appeal of the wizard in comparison to the sorcerer is that the wizard can learn any spell. Any spell. That gives the wizard unparalleled versatility in comparison to the sorcerer - at least in spell selection, anyway. How could you say that there is a lack of spells available when there's 300+ available, and you could know them all as a wizard?

I think the lack of druids is due to the way adventures are initiated. There is an inherant urban quality to the setting created by the fact that adventurers start by going to an inn in the middle of the city looking for work. It's harder to come up with a back story for why a druid would want to do that, not impossible but definitely harder.

Also, wizards have an easier time acquiring the core spells because there are 30 other wizards who spend a significant amount of time sitting around in the Red Dragon Inn. All they have to do is trade. That's a different set up from the typical adventure.

It depends on what you want to do. There's a few school specialiation combos or casting archetypes that you can't pull off well with just the RAW spells (particularly the Enchanter). I would actually sooner play a Fighter than a Wizard in LEW because of this, and if you asked my face to face groups, that is saying a lot (I've never played a Fighter as a PC even once)
