It's considered an Exotic Weapon. It's not a shortsword, dagger or anything else when qualifying for feats and abilities: it's an exotic weapon. If your DM is feeling lenient, he or she might permit it to "count" as a shortsword (the weapon it's described as being most like) for purposes involving ineraction with certain class features or feats, but according to the Rules As Written it's "none of the above". According to the Rules As I Interpret Them, it's "a complete waste of a feat". ;)

If a weapon counts as another weapon for feat purposes, it will be specified in the weapon description what weapon that is.

If you want to know what category of what weapon it is, that depends on what the feat or ability uses as categories. That is, there aren't hard and fast rules on what the game calls a "sword."
