They're probably just going to axe the entire concept.

Not without restoring Half Elf and Half Orc, the last time folks thought they were removing hybrids completely they got accused of racism, so no way they do that. I think Hybrid will be a race option of somekind.

The latter. They'll decide that the concept of mixed raced people is too problematic and remove the entire concept. And looking at what they did to the Phandelver and Below, will retcon out existing half-elves and half-orcs.

For what it's worth to this discussion, while 5e Planescape didn't go especially deep into the various factols and their backstories, the factol of the Bleak Cabal, Lhar, was a half-orc in past editions of Planescape, and in the 5e release he's listed as a full orc, despite being represented by a generic "any humanoid" gladiator statblock.

Take from that what you will.

Factol Ambar of the Believers of the Source was a half-elf back in the day, but they went with the Mind's Eye - the post-FW incarnation of that Faction, after merging with the Sign of One - under an entirely new factol instead, so it's impossible to say whether he'd have been given the same treatment.
