Has the 3.5 Monster Manual gone PG-13?

Hey Scarbonac, I like your tribute to Nausicaa, you a fan?

Oh, yeah. Yupa's heroic entrance is one of my favorite parts of the whole anime.

I was so frickin' glad when I got to see the unadulterated version, although it's such a strong story and Miyazaki is such a genius that much of the spirit of the original came through the hack job that was the Warriors of the Wind video.

Brilliant stuff.

I liked the manga too, but it was ever so much more depressing.

Nipples, Schmipples, let's not get too excited here

TS

That is just so wrong. Nipples are almost always a cause for celebration and excitement. :p

Hah. When they start drawing inch long rock-hard nipples on every vampire, succubus, and goddess in sight, then they'll just be getting back into their old 1e form.

That or they've changed publishers to Mongoose. ;)

I think most Americans are oversensitive to the issue of nudity. Nudity isn't sex. I would strongly object to anything overtly sexual in content in the core books, but nudity, by itself, just doesn't offend me. If it is just topless, then I see no trouble putting it in print. Let us remember that these are illustrations, not photographs, the quality of which, well, just aren't that detailed.

I would equally be happy with seeing bikini tops or something else covering them, but only as long as it was true to the nature of the creature being illustrated. A nymph would not wear clothes, a temptress like a succubus would not wear clothes, but most any other female creature I can think of would probably have something on, even if only to fight a chill.

I don't know too many gamers under age 13 that actually own all the books and DM their own games, so for that reason, I think making it PG-13 is just fine.

Agreed on the PG=13 part. When WotC first released 3e a few years ago they specifically said that according to their numbers the gaming crowd (or most of their fan base I guess) were college age...blah blah blah.

So, if that's true- a little nudity isnt gonna kill anyone. And as has been pointed out, nudity and sex or nudity and porno are two different things.

I miss the Planetouched girl with the ample bottom. Fat bottomed girls, they make this rockin' world go round and all that. :(

And one other thing: If I'm ever a vampire, I'm not making any spawn. Vampires look cool. Vampire Spawn (according to the MM) just look like some sort of messed up, undead doofus.

I find the new artwork amazingly hypocritical. On numerous occassions WotC has refused to approve Kenzer artwork because the artists showed the impression caused by a nipple in clothing. Yet they randomly throw a pierced nipple on the cover of the Fiend Folio and throw it about all over the place in the new MM.

Double standards make me ill.

I couldn't agree more, Rel.

When I first saw that Vampire Spawn picture I wanted to hurl. Imagine my joy when I flipped through the MM and saw a decent picture of some vampires, and then imagine my sadness when I turned the page and saw that stupid vampire spawn picture. Someone should be fired.

I did like the racier Nymph picture, but thought the earlier ones were fine. I didn't care for the previous Titan picture, and this one isn't much better, IMHO.
