Hawkeye got Blake killed on MASH

Anyway, I just found it an interesting thing, that had Hawkeye not meddled, Blake might have lived/avoided more of the war.

Well, yeah. That's the choice he was faced with in that episode. Giving that decision a concrete consequence down the road was a great way to tie it back in. Could we have gotten an episode where Hawkeye had to deal with guilt over it? Yeah, we could have. Or Radar? Again, yeah. Instead, they chose a wider focus.

There's a huge difference between a 12 hour "shift" and a 12 hour "surgery".

This difference would also be amplified in a war zone. Heck- even "shifts" in a war zone vs a peaceful urban hospital don't really compare until you're talking hospitals that operate in/near areas of high gun violence. And even then, those hospitals do SO much more than handle violence-induced trauma that most docs never see that kind of stress.

(And they're seldom at risk of becoming a casualty of said violence themselves.)
