D&D 5E Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Chapter 1

Seeing the dead throughout the streets, especially the children, is far too much for Erevan. 'Quickly, good gnomes, get this cart and the people in it wherever a wall may separate them from... this. Be well and, the gods willing, we'll see each other again, soon.'
Init _: 1D20+3 = [17]+3 = 20

Upon his action, Erevan will attempt to identify the leader of this group and put an arrow in them.
Insight _: 1D20+1 = [20]+1 = 21

Attack _: 1D20+5 = [14]+5 = 19
dmg _: 1D8+3 = [5]+3 = 8

[OOC: Just need an initiative and action from Miri. Renestrae has managed to beat the cultist's passive perception so she has a surprise round (and possibly Miri too). I'm happy for people to make and post dice rolls in whichever fashion they find easiest.]

INITIATIVE ORDER:

Erevan; 20; 15/20 HP, inspiration
Renestrae; 17; full HP, successful stealth
Kobolds; 15
Paine; 13; full HP, 3/6 HP left of False Life
Orcassm; 12; full HP
Miri; 11; full HP, inspiration
Cultists; 11
Ulfgar; 2; full HP

James the Gnome takes heed of Erevan's warning, and hurriedly starts to back up the cart and manoeuvre it behind a nearby wall which might hide them from sight.

Meanwhile, you all approach the market square. Erevan closes the distance first, sacrificing stealth for speed. Taking aim, he lands an arrow in the neck of the lead cultist, who immediately drops his barrel and gasps in shock. Despite his impeccable accuracy, Erevan's foe still stands, but barely.

[OOC: None of the group appear to be a leader as such; they are all carrying barrels and all in similar garb - leather armour with dragon motifs/stylings. They look to be two male humans and a female half-elf.]

The two remaining cultists immediately drop their barrels and turn to look at Erevan and the approaching adventurers. "There! In the market stalls!" the half-elf cultist calls. She takes a short bow from her back as the other two draw short swords.

[OOC: Renestrae is up next, and you have managed to remain hidden if you want to try any sneaky stuff]

Ufgar leads the people away, toward the keep while the others attack. If any foe approach him he will spray a poison on him.
Poison spray - automatic hit 10 feet, CON save for no damage, if hit: [roll0]

OOC: Sorry for the holdup. You caught me not paying attention!

Renestrae tries to stay out of sight as she surveys the scene. When the female calls out and draws her bow, Renestrae's target becomes clear. She draws her own bow and takes careful aim...

* Attack with Advantage: 1d20+5=25, 1d20+5=15 (We'll take the crit, tyvm..)
* Damage: 4d6+3=18 (that's 1d6 plus 1d6 sneak attack, times 2)

... and winces as her arrow finds its mark with precision.

[OOC: I think I've screwed up the initiative/surprise rounds a bit here so I'll just go with normal initiative order now - sorry all! Thanks for the feedback in the OOC thread, will bear this in mind for future]

The female cultist nocks an arrow and draws a bead on Erevan. A wicked smile plays across her face... and a scant half-second later, an arrowhead bursts through her chest as Renestrae's shot pierces her clean through. The cultist's shot goes wide as she drops her bow and slumps to the ground, blood pouring from her wound.

Miri closes on the kobolds, who are still oblivious to the attack. They are all far too busy jabbing viciously at the underside of the turned wagon. There seems to be a figure of some sort trapped beneath the wagon, trying ineffectively to fend off the kobolds with the broken shaft of a spear.

Perhaps more alarming, you can now see two of the creatures around the side of the wagon are carrying flaming torches and trying to set light to it. The tough, old wood smoulders and begins to smoke.

[You realise that a Sleep spell would likely affect anyone under the wagon as well, especially if they are injured. You can definitely make out one trapped figure, but from the size of the wagon there may well be more trapped people - you're not sure.]

Paine is up next!

Paine is also concerned about the cultists, and targets the lead one. He closes to within 40 feet and fires an eldritch blast. (He wants to make himself a target, esp of the one with the swords, but not be so close that he will attack next round.).

He fires: [roll0]. If a hit damage = [roll1].

Miri instinctively stops casting her spell to avoid hurting the innocents. "Oh my... friends! There are people trapped under the cart, and the kobolds are setting it on fire!"
