I'm looking for advice on preparing games as a DM. Although my game is 3.5 D&D, any system neutral advice is appreciated as well. I've DMed a ridiculously long time, but it's always been on the fly with very little preparation. With my new game I've decided to focus more on preparation since I think it'll improve my DMing and make a better game.
However when I set down to do preparation work, I realize that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing or how to go about it.
What techniques do you use to prepare your games? Any advice appreciated.
