How Does Your Party Divide Treasure?

I've seen many ways but as a DM I like to see a party each take some sort of magic item that is actually useful to them, then use smaller items or coinage to supplement those who have gotten lower value from those initial choices. Basically trying to keep the value even but not to give up anything that can help the party in the process, even if that is the only way to make everything even.

Do you give useful items to the PC for which they are most useful and keep the rest in the party treasury?

This is how my players have (long ago) decided to do things. It works for them.
