How good is the Book of Eldritch Magic?

It's a great book. The spells fill some some-needed niches - Teleport Block, Teleport Coordinates Transfer, Teleport Redirect and Teleport Tracer are invaluable! Other really cool spells include Spell Trap (absorbs one specific spell), Electrical Deluge (variation of Chain Lightning and lightning Bolt), Magma Burst (think volcano effect - also available to druids!), Greater Sleep, Dragonskin (+4 natural armor, 10 points of energy resistance), and Arcana Form (you transform yourself into pure magical energy). As for Primal Release - I really don't have any issues with this spell - it's 8th level for chrissake!!! Sure it makes the target a horrible combat machine (but then again think of the level of play and what else you can do with an 8th level spell). Add to that the the target turns dumb as a rock and can't use any spell-like abilities. Just think how easily you can enhance yourself with two low-level spells like endurance and bull's strength and suffer no setbacks AT ALL?

As for the prestige classes - I like them. The Embermage is the much-needed fire specialist, Graven ONes were the first good tattoo-focused PrC out there and Mirror Mage is strangely fascinating.

Psion did you house rule this one?

No, I didn't see it as that big of a problem. At worst, I'd make it 4th level. It's really not that much worse than hold person. It is really going to be most effective against low level targets, against whom fireball would have been just as effective.

Bolt of Conjuring is questionable.

Off the top of my head: 3rd level, medium range, single target, ranged touch, no save. 1d4/level damage AND it conjures a Summon I creature to attack the target at the same time.

You sure about the damage? I'm at work, so I dont' have my PDF handy, but I thought it was just a straight 1d4 points of damage...

I gots my PDF right here, now that you mention it. I believe this is Open Content (as it is derived from the SRD and as it is described in the credits of Monte's work), so here we go:

Bolt of Conjuring
Conjuration (Summoning)
Level: Sor/Wiz 3
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Medium (100 ft.+10 ft./level)
Target: One creature
Duration: Instantaneous (see text)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
You fire a blast of magical force that strikes a target
unerringly, inflicting 1d4 points of damage per caster
level (maximum 10d4). Further, at the time of striking,
the bolt summons an outsider as if summon monster
I had been cast. The summoned creature can act
immediately upon appearing, as described in summon
monster I, and remains for 1 round per caster level.

If someone more knowledgeable feels I'm in error posting this, I'll edit this out.
