we play a very player-driven style campaign, so rarely do i know what they'll do next unless we were fortunate enough to end the previous session at a spot that strongly suggested some particular course of action.
If I know what's going to happen (or at least a close approximation) it takes me less than an hour to prepare. But when I don't have any idea and I need to prepare multiple contingencies as well as a "catch all back up" then it takes me about 3-4 hours to determine plot lines and responses from key npcs and so on.
