Hmmmm $17.5k can buy a lot of minis though.... although the freedom to create your own is cool, however you might need to be a CAD designer or something to get really nice ones

While the individual hobbyist (who is loaded) might go for this . . . what I'm really wondering if this printer makes sense for a business like WotC or Reaper. Minis on demand! Anything in the back catalog, we'll just "print" it for you! :)

Honestly, with a properly designed CAD model you'd be able to drop on whatever weapon combination, head, pose, etc, that you want. You'd also be able to get around some of the pose restrictions that the casting process requires.

The big question is the fidelity of the final piece. I've seen some 3D printers that are really grainy. (The Figureprints models for Rock Band/WoW, for instance, would look horrible at a 25mm scale.)
