D&D (2024) Idea for starting ASIs, three way split.

just modify point buy:

32pts;

8: 0pts
9: 1pt
10: 2pts
11: 3pts
12: 4pts
13: 5pts
14: 6pts
15: 8pts
16: 10pts

or default array of 16,16,14,12,10,8
Yeah. If ASIs are freely placeable, then they don't need to exist. It is just awkward and clunky to effectively have two different ability assigning methods on top of each other.

You could do that with more point buy points
Fair enough.

They would just need to figure out what to charge for a 16 or 17 for folks who want that. (11 for 16, 13 for a 17?) and how many more points to give everyone (4? 3?). Should there be an asterisk to say no more than two scores over 15?

For standard arrays, I kind of wish they gave like three or four of them, (1 maxed out nothing bad, several high several bad, pretty good all around, etc...).

That's true. And if this was going to be a whole new edition, then they probably could have gotten rid of them altogether.

But because this is supposed to work hand-in-hand with the 2014 books, they still have to keep these bonuses in the game somewhere (otherwise the 2014 races would gain a net benefit over the 2024 ones.)

Isn’t that how PF2 does it?
Kinda. In PF2 you start with 10 in everything. Each race grants either two fixed +2s, a fixed -2 and a floating +2 (which can’t stack with the fixed ones, but can be used to cancel out the -2) or two floating +2s. Each background grants a +2 in one of two fixed abilities and a floating +2 (which can’t stack). Each class grants a +2 to its primary ability (or a choice of one of it’s primary abilities). After all that, you get four non-stackable +2s. It’s pretty cool because it’s basically an array but still has the flavor of fixed ASIs from race, class, and background.
